Is the 292 made in 2 versions? What I am asking is did they make a different version for big trucks opposed to a F-100, F-250? One with a longer stroke? Maybe this was done with trans and differential? I have an opportunity to buy one out of a larger truck.
Bore and stroke are the same, otherwise it wouldn't be a 292.
Yes, they made several varieties, and the engine changed from year to year as well. Compression was dropped over the years for one.
There was a heavy duty version with sodium cooled valves for medium trucks. Those also had governed carbs and I think a governed distributor.
There were 2bbl and 4bbl versions also.
In mediums, some, but I not sure about all, used a larger input for the transmission. An NP435 from an F600 vs and F100 for example. Not sure on the T98 used in the late '50s to mid '60s.
Differentials are vastly different, much heavier and larger. Many mediums had a two speed axle, the band aid for the limits of the 4 speed main transmissions.
You may have to use a different bell housing in a pickup or car, not sure. But if you are replacing a 292, then you can swap over whatever is different and make it work.
I got a little more info on the truck. It is a F700, it has a clark 5 speed in it. Distributor is not tach driven, has a 2 barrel. Just interested in the engine for another project. The cab belongs to me just has not been delivered.
Looks like a 292. I'm not sure the Lincoln Y-blocks used the crossover exhaust. The other obvious external difference is the intake manifold. Ford Y-block is stacked ports, Lincoln is side by side. As has been said about identifying an FE engine, Helen Keller could tell a Lincoln Y from a Ford.....
