Exhaust manifold says C6AE-R (and are shot BTW) and the only numbers on the back of the block are 352 with the numbers 38 underneath and where the starter is, it’s stamped 352 with the numbers 22 underneath. i am pulling my hair out trying to figure this out. I stripped the block down to bear bones so I can’t measure stroke. Any help would be much appreciated. Thanks. Jarheadjo

Mistyped. 1960 F 350
With proper photo's It would be easy to determine exactly what engine you have. Its quite obvious its a FE engine. Heads most likely off a 352 as most common. The 352 bore size if standard bore is 4.00. All you need to do is measure bore then look at number on crank to determine the stroke. With just a quick glance at back of crank I can tell you if its a 352 crank. If you took it apart you can also measure the pistons for size. If they are over bore it will be stamped on top of piston.

If pistons say .020 or .030 and are 4.020/4.030 you will know its a 352. If they are marked .030 and are 4.080 its a 390 piston.. Standard 390 and 360 is 4.050. The 390 shares crank with 427 and the 360 crank is shared with the 352.

1) Look at number on crank
2) Measure bore/piston
3) Look at casting number by oil filter adaptor to determine exact year month date the engine was cast
4) The C6AE R heads will also have a casting date on them. See if dates match
5) Pretty much all pieces on engine including timing cover will have a date. The engine block will have not only the casting date but also a assembly date.
6) Intake manifold if stock ford will also have date plus casting to tell the application
7) I will try to find a few pics to help you find those locations of dates and casting numbers

my guess is you have a 1965 or 1966 352 without seeing any photos

Thanks for going above and beyond. I spent yesterday in the 90 degree heat building my garage. Today I will take some pics, measurements and look for those numbers. I will get back as soon as I can. Happy Father’s Day to all you Dad’s.

Only 90*. That's almost jacket weather. LOL. I just spent the past week framing and sheathing a roof here in tucson. Of course it's a dry heat.

You have the crank out so measure it with your calipers as per the previous post I made with the link to a webpage. As far as what your truck left the factory with you will need to post the warranty plate tag and also confirm that the vin on the tag matches the frame rail vin

Thanks, will do. This motor must have been a replacement. The original motor was av292 Y block according to VIN plate. So I can use the calipers and don’t need a micrometer? That’s good because I don’t have one lol. I did find another number today which I can only assume is the assembly date? 5M10-A. Just so I am clear center of crank to center of journal. Thanks

Crank center to rod journal center x 2 will give you the stroke.

That crank has the half-moon cutout like a 352 crank. Some 390s had it too, but very limited vs. the 352 crank. Your measurement will tell the tale.

Your bore measurement brings up the possibility of it being a 330 MD engine. These were FT engines for medium trucks. The Medium Duty engine used the 352 crank for a 3.5" stroke, and had a 3.875" bore, the only sub-4" bore in the FE/FT lineup. So double check your bore.

The C6ME casting is not inconsistent with a 330MD. FE heads and intake will easily work on a 330MD.

5M10 as a date code could be December 10, 1965, consistent with a model year revision as indicated by the casting number C6ME.

Measurements will tell the tale.

I have a C6ME in my 66 F250 and it measures out to a 410. I have no idea if it is original. This list might help out.

Thanks for the info. I will be glad when the mystery is solved. I took 20 plus years of grease and clay off that block to find those numbers. Going to measure the crank again today and re-measure the bore. I haven’t found any numbers .020, .030, etc on the pistons so these should be the originals but I am going to check it all again. Thanks to all who assisted me in identifying this motor, it’s official, 352. 4.0/3.5, stock 352 heads. Thanks again one and all
