Repaired Tailgate Motor Today
The POS bushings in the motor gear box shelled out as I suspected. I ended up cutting 1/4" fuel line 3/16" long and putting dowel rods inside of the fuel line. It took a little fiddling but I got them all in place. Changed out the grease in the gear box and cleaned up the rust on the bottom slide that attaches to the window and on the regulator. A fresh coat of gease on the regulator and on the slides and it works better than it has in years
The hardest part was getting the freaking window down!
May have to find an icy cold Bud to celebrate this one!
Thanks for all the help guys!
Luckily I had ordered spare parts from Jeff's. I installed them and everything is working again.I guess I learned my lesson, use make shift parts and you might get to do it again!
On the upside I am getting really good at taking the tailgate apart. I did however get in a hurry and forgot which way the regulator was under tension. I am now sporting a nice split knucke as a reminder. I have labeled the regulator so that won't happen again (well maybe!).
kudos on the fixin
was it the window drive repair kit with the plastic gear and such(from jeff's)?
ps just a note clean the leaves out of your heater duct/box so you don't rot your heater core/ box backer plate out
Im buying a bronco where the power window is stuck in the down position. I was wondering if it was posible to get it back up as a temporary thing till i fix it? Can i just open the pannel and manually feed the window back up (assuming the tailgate is closed.)
thanks for your time
Crownman what is the deal with your back window? Motor turns but window won't go up, no power, or is the interlock system shot? Depending on what is happening can kind of effect the forcing it up. I would not recommend just pushing on the regulator arms will probably result in bending them at the least. There isn't much room to get in and rotate the pinion. If the pinion is not turning and the motor runs as mine was, you can kind of assist it by having someone push the button/turn the key while you lift up.
If you have no juice then you can run some temporary power. My drivers side latch interlock failed before and I jumped it out to get the window up. Of course the easisest is to make sure that the tailgate is fully latched.
Sorry to be so long winded!
Its startin to snow where i live so i gotta get this sorted out fast
thanks again
Good luck with the snow, it is supposed to be 80 here today!

but the latch switch is a pain any way just don't put the gate down with the glass up more than a couple inches unless it is supported(ps a great use for those old tires lol)
when i did mine i just cleaned the gear area on the motor and repacked it with fo.mo.co. black grease and rewired it as there was lamp cord used by previous owner and the tailgate switch/lock was missing
works fine but could stand to add a relay in to spead things up
things to check
turn the switch and push in on tailgate( yup at the same time and or have someone hold the dash switch
the ground from the dash switch as this is the only ground
unplug the dash switch and check for continuity/resistance/ohms while fidleing with the switch
general condition of the wireing if you see any lamp cord or spaker wire pull it all
good luck
