I am getting a new trailer that is heavier than my old one so I want to upgrade that problematic cold side intercooler pipe. My truck is a 2017, is the H&S kit a good choice or is there something better? From what I can tell from a reliably stand point there is really no point in doing anything to the hot side yeah?
The kit from Rudy's is what I have, and it was highly recommended on here, and is also much less expensive than the H & S kit. Do a search on here, there is a couple threads that go into great detail on installing it.
I went with Rudy's also. I had the rubber part come apart from under the steel band. Not sure why because I wasn't getting on it and wasn't towing. I did however fix it with a Ford hose clamp. Then i heard so many stories about the plastic cracking that I decided to just replace it all together. I would replace it in your driveway because it will only fail on the highway and theres nothing I like better than fixing my truck on the side of the road.
Good info, unfortunately it doesn’t look like Rudy’s makes one for the 2017+ 6.7. On their site they are selling one from XDP for even more than the H&S kit.
I don't mean to hijack, but I've been following a couple of other discussions on this topic, specific to the 2017+ platform. It seems the general consensus is that FoMoCo revised the design for the 2017+ system and the cold side failures are not so much of an issue anymore? I'm certainly not a topic expert, but figured it might be worth additional discussion here, because I'm on the fence about upgrading as well since we are headed to Colorado in a few weeks and planning to tow pretty heavy with the entire family on board. Would much prefer to fix it first, if it is indeed an issue...
It seems to me like it is still a potential issue but seems to be a much less common failure on 2017+. I think I am going to leave it for now. If I were going to do it, I think both the SPE kit and the H&S kit seems like good options.
There have been no failures on the 17 truck like the 11 through 16 trucks. I have not seen any complaints. If you take your truck to the dealer for service work you can ask the mechanic or service writer if they have seen a problem with the 17 and newer trucks.
If I was to do it again, I'd do the SPE kit. Not cheap, but you are paying for an easy installation. Plus my Rudy's kit always moves out of the silicone coupler to rest up against a factory line which I can't remember what it is as I'm not looking at it. When the Mishimoto catch can was put in place, the pipe came out and the clamp was tightened down a little more. It stayed put for awhile but then moved out like it always has. No problems with it though.

remove the silicone hose, clean well with brake cleaner, cleaner the pipe let both dry, sneak your wife's hair spray out of the house and spray both the pipe and the hose, assemble wet and clamp. let sit overnight.
RETURN hairspray to where you found it.

I have used it on hot and cold of a lot of diesels that blow the hoses off, never had one blow off with hair spray on it, had a customer with a 2002 F350 dually running low 11's and never blew a hose off.
This was a timely topic for me.
Was driving home yesterday with my Brand new travel trailer and the hose burst. Narrow two lane with gravel shoulders....
Should have done it before I went to go get the trailer...
