Recent member here, but a Ford guy for life. Anyways, I own a 2007 F150 5.4 Triton and I am getting a flashing check engine light. After some initial searches it looks like I have a misfire. Connected code reader and sure enough- cylinder 4 misfire detected. I purchased a new coil pack and have it in. Question is: Are there multiple variations to the coil pack- specially to the height of the connection? The new one doesn't allow the fitting to snap in to it. Almost as if the coil connection is too tall. Thoughts?
There are variations between cars / trucks / years of the coils......... DId you buy a coil for a 5.4 motor ? Did you buy factory or aftermarket ? Nothing wrong with aftermarket in my opinion, but some dont last as long as factory unit.
Your coil should probably be a DG511 which has the pin connector pointing up about 75 degrees... the older DG508 for the pre 2004 units has the pin connector laying down like 45 degrees.
I purchased the replacement coil through Autozone, but it stated OEM. Everything seemed to match up, except after install the wired connector wouldn't seat completely and latch in place. I plan to remove it and recheck for matching. It was for the 5.4, engine vin code match confirmed. You provided (I believe) a part number- so I will look into that further as well. Silly question though- does the color of plug boot actually matter? I was under the impression it was abrand specific decision for which color to use for the boot.
A genuine Motorcraft coil boot will be black for your 2007. If the boot is brown, it is for the redesigned heads which started late in 2008 production.

508 also seems to have a longer boot, as well as a "dogleg"... I can understand the confusion, especially since RockAuto lists coils with 511 and 508 for a 5.4... apparently the 3 valve head takes the 508 and the 2 valve the511.... Get the right ones and save yourself some hassle...
