The front bumper on my 90 F-150 XLT Lariat 4x4 has seen it's better days. My question is, does anyone know if the front bumper off of a 92-96 XLT will replace mine? As far as I know, they should bolt right up, but I wonder if the front clip of the 92-96 trucks are shaped differently then the 87-91's, even though they both look square. I like the look of my neighbors 96 F-250 XLT front bumper, and since I'm considering replacing mine.....
LAST EDITED ON 17-Jan-01 AT 06:58 PM (EST)[p]as far as the chassis is concerned, yes the bumper will fit, as for the front clips it will not fit, the bumper on a 92-96 is rounded to the round contour of the 92-96. a 87-90 bumper is shaped to fit the flat face of the 87-96, it may bolt to it, but i guarantee it will not look right.
all rear bumpers from 80-96 are interchangable though.
all have simular beds.

CGL, It will line up with the frame but you will have to do a little make-shift work to be able to bolt it together. The 87' thru 91's have a bracket that bolts direct to the channel of the frame where as the 92's to 96's have a tab type wing on the inside of the channel that the bumper bracket bolts to. It can be done and I agree that the newer bumper looks better but it is a make/shift type of thing to do. A little enginuity, some extra hardware or a welder, and patience should get you what you want. Go to the salvage yard and see what is available and how it is attached. The toughest part is the fact that the older truck is flat and the newer trucks are more rounded. You may have to fabricate the frame ends to extend out a little in order for the bumper to set properly. I have seen several 80' to 86' trucks use to 92' to 96' bumper. They look great. The only thing is that Ford trucks of the 80' to 86' years are more similar to the trucks of the 90's than to 87' to 91's. Good luck.

Since mine's seen a few embankments and few others dings, not to mention rock and bug damage that's starting to rust, where can I get a new Ford OEM bumper or one that's strong as a Ford?? I saw some $200 bucks for a new all chrome or $150 for a chrome one with holes for the plastic strip, But I'm not sure if they're made by Ford. Any ideas?
Cgl, Call a Ford dealer. The parts dept. should be able to give you a price on the bumper you need. Compare the price with what you already have. If possible, try to find a Ford truck dealer. The one that I deal with keeps at least one of every type in stock. All years, all mods, all types of truck sizes. The dealer I use is a heavy truck dealer.
I've got the Warn Enforcer on the front of my '90 F-250 extended cab and I think it looks great. I now have a reason to start shopping for a winch. It's the chrome model with PIAA dual fog / driving lights installed. It was $530 at 4-Wheel Parts Wholesalers, and the look in the faces from the small car drivers made it worth every penny. It's really a quality product.
well, here's my two cents if you'd like. Some idiot backed into my 1990 f150 and bent the bumper. (Luckily that was all of the damage). I called around and found out exactly what everyone else is saying. the contour is different. so i picked up a chrome model with the plastic insert for $100 bucks at a parts recycler. After some polish, it looked like new. I thought i got lucky for $100, but i called around and found that that was just pretty much the going price around town. Heck, i'm almost glad the guy hit me because i got a chrome bumper to replace the ugly painted one that came on the truck. That's about it. Just wanted to let you know that the dealer doesn't have to be your first option.
Cgl, I think they look great. Looks like a very good product. I have always thought about getting one for my truck but I have always had plow on the front.
