I’ve been trying to figure out what these are and can’t find anything about them. I went to a junk yard and found that it might be some kind of plastic box that covers the bigger pipe. Then the hard line I’m guessing is a vacuum line that will lead to the carb or air box? Any help is appreciated 😊 it’s a 76 F-250 390 This is coming off of the passenger side of the engine block. I think it is covering up the headers? Same side but just about a foot farther back.
The first one is a heat riser. Took hot air from the header area and recirculated it into the air inlet to help with warm up. Judging by the fitting on the end it looks like it may have been a home fab hot air tube for the climatic choke. Where does the hard line go?
I’ve replaced the carb with an electric choke so do you think I even need to worry about the recirculating pipe if it was for something else? And the hardline just kind of ends there. It has a rubber hose on the end of it but I do not know where that rubber hose should go to or if it even belongs there
I noticed that. I think you can just remove it entirely, not sure where it is hooked up. The heat riser off the manifold area had a flexible tube that ran vertically into the air horn coming off the air filter housing. Someone correct me if I am wrong, but wasn’t it mainly to help warm up quicker in colder climates?

The function of the heat stove (Baffle on the exhaust manifold) was to mitigate carburettor icing, this phenomenon is most prevalent just above freezing with high humidity. So so you need it ? Depends on where you live and if you drive you truck year-round. If you live in Arizona or southern Cali ya you will never need it. If you live in the northeast and drive year-round you would probably benefit from it.
if you decide you do not need the baffle it and are going to remove it do so carefully as they are now rare and rather pricey.
