I have an 89 Bronco, 5sp w/overdrive. The tag on the fill plug says to use Ford ATF Type H only. What the heck is Type H? I think the trans is a little low, and would like to change the fluid before winter strikes. What should I get?
In my '89 5-speed it calls for Mercon. The ATF I use is rated for both Mercon and Dexron and I have not had a problem with mine (108K). I send in oil samples for oil analysis and the analysis have always come back in good shape.
I use Valvoline, the transmission holds roughly 3.5 quarts. Get yourself one of those little hand pumps like you use for 90 weight, the kind that scews onto the oil bottle, and you will save yourself a ton of work!
Well, I managed to change the fluid yesterday... Ford type H ATF is the Dextron Mercon III (The fluid removed from the trans was red). Thanks for all of the help!
