PLEASE Help having ignition problems

I have a 79 ford mud drag truck. No factory wiring. I have a ignition miss at 5200. I have tried 3 different ignition modules 2 coils and 2 distributor. We put a resistor on it and made it worse. I've put my hei in it and it runs fine. PLEASE HELP ME

Where were you tapping power for the Duraspark? Maybe it wasn't getting enough power but the HEI can run on less?
