If anyone is intrested in a console safe, Console vault is having a sale for fathers day.Beats any ford I called.
I'm not in any way part of them, just bought one, and wanted to let you all know.
Perfect! Thank you, I just sent this to my wife as I was just recently telling her I need to move my pistol from below the steering column to a safer location.
I went with the lock-er-down also, strictly due to the larger lid size. I originally bought the ford version but returned it for the small lid. Even my wife’s small purse was a struggle to get in, let alone my ifak and all the other stuff I keep in there. Very happy I switched them out.
Thanks for the heads up. I have a hobo camp in the park behind my house, leave the truck unlocked for 10 minutes and some bum is going through it. Been wanting something a little more secure then the not so hidden box above the glove box. DAD2020 is the discount code.
This is what I run in our F-250. Keeps half the console locked and half open for everyday items. Also keeps the tray from sliding around the console when turning.
How secure are these vaults? I’m debating on getting one. While the lock and lid appear to be sturdy, would it be easy to defeat by getting into the console from the side or the back (through vents, etc.)? Understanding that a determined thief will be able to get into anything, I want something that will prevent/deter most theft attempts.

They would have to totally destroy the console. Not a smash and grab operation.

So a vault is $300 and a Glock is $500. The cost difference means nothing for this analogy.
Then there's the fact that your deductible is $1,000 since they broke your window out.
And once they see the vault, they're going to go bananas because now they KNOW there's a heater inside it!!
So after they beat the living cowflop out of the interior of your truck with whatever they smashed your window with, and you return to a truck that looks like 12 blood diamond miners with pick axes dug for a 50 carat rock in your front seat, you're going to wonder why you locked up a $500 Glock in a $300 vault in a $60,000 truck now that all the afore mentioned investments are now substantially damaged or gone (because at this point the $500 gun is not the first thing on your mind)
Then you're going to wonder why you parked where you did.
Then you're going to actually keep your tools ON YOU and not leave a heater inside the truck.
Then you are going to drive a rental and have to actually keep your gun ON your body where it should have been to begin with.
THEN, after your truck is in the shop for three weeks, you're going to get it back and YOU ARE NOT GOING TO BUY ANOTHER CONSOLE VAULT because now you learned your lesson.
Just sayin...........
Fill out a few dozen reports with the above story each year and then come talk to me.

The only time I ever remove my firearm from my body and put it in the safe is if I have to stop at the Post Office, courthouse, or other restricted place. I’m not sure how many people buy one to just permanently store a weapon, although I’m sure some do. I would guess they are the same people who have purchased a firearm for their safety, but have never taken a training course. A vehicle safe is for temporary storage and should be treated as such, but I would much rather have a safe to throw it in to than a glovebox.
