Help, please 7.3 diesel!
My dads truck has a couple of issues. Unfortunately he's not one to maintain his truck past oil changes and when things break down. He somehow has over 400k miles on the truck so its a testament to how well built these 7.3 diesels are. So long time ago he started having issues with the truck starting in the morning, he would have to plug in his truck so it would start. I believe his glow plug system probably needed changing. He went on using the truck but plugging it in constantly, finally the truck just stopped turning over. He called a mechanic and had them fix it. The mechanic said it was his injectors and he supposedly "fixed it". We still had to plug it in but at least it was running. A couple of months later the heater block went and I told my dad I could fix it. Thats when I noticed diesel in the coolant. I told my dad it was probably the cups and that it was going to be expensive to fix. We are also getting code p0302 and p1670. The truck still runs but it has to be plugged in. I'm thinking the mechanic messed up and cracked the injectors when he took them out.
LIST OF ISSUES
Diesel in coolant
No overflow in overflow tank or smoke
codes p0302 & p1670
hard start unless plugged in
Oil leak (not important right now)
I think the fixes needed would be
1) injector cups
2) test and clean injectors
3) new harness and gaskets
4) new glow plugs with kit
5) new radiator hoses & thermostat
6) coolant flush?
So does anybody know if this sounds about right? I'm just a bit confused because if it was leaking diesel in the coolant would it be overflowing? What am I missing? Is it okay to run the truck until we fix it? Because it runs fine after its been plugged in.
