I have a 72 F250 highboy with a 390 and I put a set of hedman long tube headers on. Worked fine. I've now installed a dana 60 high pinion front end from a 79 and with the driveshaft being higher now the headers hit the shaft when the suspension is working. Put some good dents in headers.
Anyone have any idea if the Sanderson shorty's with custom exhaust will work?
Thanks
John
I do not have first hand experience with the Sanderson header but a shorty and properly run exhaust to collector clear from most comments I read. Now, I do know the Stans or FPA Tri Y Long Tube Headers fit with a HP60 but you will spend a little more for those over the Sanderson. The Tri Y Stans or FPA tuck tight to the oil pan and cross member under the bell housing sand will not hit, with a 4" lift, 1350 joints and a 3" driveshaft tube. If I had stock springs I may have an issue.
Thank you very much for your help guys.
Yellow truck if you could post some pics that would be great.
I don't think I have much of a choice now except for the Sanderson shortys. I would think a good custom exhaust shop could get them to work.
When it comes together I'll get some info and pics for the next man in line.
No problem, just stepped out to the garage and snapped a couple. My master cylinder and brake booster are out right now so I'm pulling them to blast and coat them. I also had some exhaust leaks. In any case also a good time to take pictures where you can actually see.
I had a muffler shop make the extensions - I used to have a set of long tube but there are no long tube that work with the Cobra Jet style exhaust ports on my BBM heads, so went with Sanderson plus an extension. I did learn that you should listen to Sanderson and NOT the muffler shop.
The muffler guy insisted he had to use gaskets, and they leak. Use silicone as recommended by Sanderson.
Thank you very much Yellow Truck.
And for pointing out the silicone and not gaskets. I was wondering about that but it sure is nice to hear it from a end user.
Ordered the headers this morning. Will be here for July.
Thanks again all.

Did you contact one or both? FPA is pretty offended when you ask if they are Stan's Headers and vise versa.

Yup I know, it’s easy to mix them up because the guy at FPA is named Stan Johnson Apparently there is no love lost between the Stans, either. Stan’s Headers is still making truck headers but FPA I guess is not.
I just put the FF427 sandersons in and an hp Dana 44 1978. Block huggers. Check over the picture for collector exit. The collector shoots straight down and ends high up. I’m going to put flex pipe I want to drive it to the exhaust shop and then have them finish it up. Anyone Advise running the exhaust pipe above the crossmember that is between the clutch and transmission to help in clearing driveshaft?
I had originally bought the hooker 6905 but found it the long tube headers would hit the high pinion drive shaft, then found the FF427 Sanderson’s.
stpackard..... Thanks a million. You knew exactly what my problem area is. And those pics are like gold for me. But now I know it is doable. Once it starts to come together I'm hoping I can get both the pipes to run down the truck on the passenger side. At this point I'll take anything that keeps the headers from slamming into the driveshaft. And while I'm at it, small world. A real good friend of mine lives close to you. Oakland. Been out a few times to visit. Always enjoyed the people I met in Nebraska.
Good luck with truck.
