I have a 78 F250 4x4 with a 3 inch suspension lift that I put a 390 4bbl in, I am currently running the stock exhaust manifolds but would like to have headers, the headers that I have found fit good on the passenger side but on the drivers side they exit pointing at the front drive shaft and actually don't clear the frame mount good either. I realize Ford didn't put this engine in 78's but has anyone found a header manufacturer that offers one for this combo?
thank's, Neil
When purchasing headers.
Measure the holes on the cylinder heads on the the exhaust ports.
Then measure the exhaust hole on the headers.
Make sure the flange part on header will seal any exhaust leaks.
The headers I bought awhile back, the holes on the header where to small and I had some major exhaust leaks. The engine ran terrible. The headers I had on the 390FE were Hedman Headers.
stan's headers in oregon makes headers that are a tri-y design for lots of motor swap applications. i had a set on my 72 that i swapped a 460 into and they fit like a glove.. pretty reasonable too- like 250 or so. they have a 3/8" flange and are well built. google em and give them a call, they may be able to help..
