I actually like my seatbelt buzzer working! It's very nostalgic, that little 3-4 seconds of bzzzzzrzrrzrzrzzzz just warms my heart for whatever reason... reminds me of my Dad's 84 Mustang!
Anyway, the buzzer used to work when I got the 1978 F-250 back in August of 2018, it worked for a while, and then stopped, granted, the truck hasn't moved out of my garage since it was parked in 2018, I am not sure why it quit working.
I bought an NOS buzzer off ebay, SW-1342, and it still doesn't work, just because its NOS doesn't mean it'll work!
I made sure to check the actually connection to the seatbelt it self and everything is hooked up. Is there anywhere else I need to look?
Wire from the seat belt connection runs under the carpet/vinyl mat at an angle on the dvsr side floor pan. From back edge of trans hump towards park brake pedal.
is fuse 4 good?
does the seat belt warning light on the instrument cluster come on?
there is a switch in the left hand seat belt retractor according to the wiring diagram...not sure if having the seatbelt pulled out partially prevents the light/buzzer or not...I always assume it came on for a few seconds regardless.
I do not think there is a switch in the left hand seat belt retractor. if there is that is news to me for sure. The wiring goes to the L/H seat belt floor mounted short female end. AFAIK.
My supercab wiring goes to the floor mounted retractor as well. As I was chasing out all the gremlins, I noticed that the buzzer didn’t work. After a few drives, I realized that the lower retractor needed as much of the belt as possible in order to both run the buzzer and, unlock the retractor so I could pull the belt.
I also like the buzzer to work, lets me know that I have everything working.
Also, worth a note, the buzzer is the same for 80s Ranger and E/F series. Rangers have it behind the glove box, easy to find.
Typical Ford...the answer is "it depends" on if you have a "three-point" or "continuous loop" seat belt configuration. The 1978 wiring diagram shows the switch in the seat belt retractor (outboard of L. H. seat, on floor). 1979 shows a seat belt buckle switch...
What I love about FTE, you can learn something new everyday. Guess I have only seen a continuous loop system and the left inboard buckle switch/gnd point.
Thank you to dlburch for telling me to check my fuse.. now my NOS one works! If i have the seatbelt on and then turn the key, itll just light up but not buzz, and If i leave it unbuckled, it'll buzz for 8 seconds... very nostalgic! Thanks guys
