The pipe from the air injection pump that connects to the rear of the exhaust manifold on the driver's side is broken, the passenger side pipe is still intact and hooked up. I'm unable to find a replacement pipe locally, should I plug the broken pipe, or just let it pump the air into the enginerengine bay?
If you plugged it, any recommendations on how you did it? If you have let it vent into the engine bay, is it noticable sound wise?
Also, will this mess up the 02 sensor readings since the air goes into the exhaust manifold before the sensor.
Now is the time to fix it if you intend to, because its a huge pain with the engine installed. If you want to reuse it, obviously you need to weld/fabricate something. Without it, it is not doing anything so just remove both tubes + muffler, but leave the TAB solenoid(s) electrically connected, b but vacuum capped off. Computer won't miss it.
Also, the smog pump and it's hoses are no longer needed. You can leave pump and replace with ldler pulley when it finally locks up.
It doesn't bother me if it's removed. I'm mostly worried that it will mess up the 02 readings since the air in injected before the sensor. Won't it read rich without the extra air and reduce the amount of fuel being injected into the engine?
Short answer, no. The air is only injected during cold start really anyways. Your catalytic converter's effectiveness will be decreased and it may eventually clog up due to incomplete burning without the extra air.
