OK I have seen articles about the 400 and I read about 2v heads and 4v heads. I always thought that one was with the two barrel carb but now I don't know. Could someone enlighten me please. I have a 400 in my 55 f-100 with the two barrel. Thanks
4V heads only came on the 351c. All 400s were 2 barrel carb and 2V heads.
Or so everyone thinks. I saw a 4V 400 in the 70's sitting in a junkyard in east Texas. To the OP, the "V" stands for Venturi, not valve. That's where the confusion comes from today
The 351C heads are either 2v or 4v. 400 never came with 4 barrel carb in US to my knowledge. 351C 4v manifold will not work on a 400 with 2v heads. Actually neither will the 351 2v manifold without adapters. baddad "may" have been looking at a Cleveland. They look very similar to a 351m/400.

Nope. I wasn't looking at a Cleveland. I was with a friend who's Dad had a 71 2dr Ford Custom with a 400 2bbl. We went to that J'Yard looking for something (that I don't recall) They had a room full of pulled engines and one had Ford 400-4V on the air cleaner cover, I told him that's what he needed in the 71. We used to race all kinds of cars with that 71, only lost one race in it.
