Hello everyone, I hope you all are staying safe during these crazy times! My 1965 F100 4x4 has what I believe is a 410 Mercury. I think it may need a new distributor, as the dwell varies at different engine speeds. Is the 410 distributor different from the other FEs? I wanted to buy a Pertronix distributor, but the seller messaged me and said it wouldn't fit. I was amazed that he took the time to contact Pertronix and find this out. When I look up replacement distributors, they lump all the FEs together so I'm hoping someone can enlighten me!
That's not a HEI cap, just a standard cap with wire retainer. Still need the Flame Thrower coil. From what I understand a 410 is a 390 with 428 crank and rods and was not used in Ford vehicles only Mercury.
If your distributor bushing isn't worn out and it probably isn't. Your problem is most likely the Autolite breaker plate that came in it. The original Autolite plates were a poor design and were replaced with by a much more stable advance plate in 72. The two on the right in the pic are Autolites the one on the left is a Motorcraft the Autolite plate is only held down with a flimsy wavy washer and slides around on those three nylon buttons which tend to wear out and fall out. You can get them at any parts house or E-Bay and replace the points with a Pertronix pickup and you should be good to go for 1/3 the cost of a new distributor. The PN's are BWD BP1, Standard FD8006, Motorcraft DB-187 A. https://www.ebay.com/i/303101743528?...algv%3DDefault
RockAuto has them pretty cheap; pic shows that it includes a cap. The cap shown in Christmas' photo has the male terminals. There is a better selection of plug wires available for that style.

Wish I could install a new complete billet Protronix distributor with the Ignitor 1 or 2 unit inside but they don't make a unit for the 240/300 inline 6, only the module. The male plug cap that Chrismas posted picture of is the same size as the standard cap and the male adapter is much better than the old push in style IMO.

Male terminal dizzy caps introduced in 1977. Also required is the plastic adapter below that the cap clips to.
