I have a 2000 v10 and the motor is locked up. Ive already took the front of the truck off and pulled the intake off and disconnected just about everything. The new motor has the intake on it... Do I need to remove it to install the engine?
It looks like there will be a clearance is sure with the back of the oil pan and the frame of the truck. Will it be a problem or is it my imagination?
The torque converter is gonna have to come out with the engine since it's locked up (can't spin the engine). Do I need to lossen the transmission crossmember or anything?
I took the timing cover off and 1 of the crank gears and used a pipe wrench, about a 4ft pipe, and 2 ppl to turn the motor over and we managed to get the torque converter nuts off.i had no faith in it and thought the pipe wrench was gonna just chew up the crank. But it did its job and never slipped 1 time
You have an early model 2 valve V10. I would remove the intake...here is why, when I changed my engine (V10), I was not able to buy a new intake. They were not available from any manufacturer. I did a lot of research and couldnt find one. The problem with that is that some engine manufacturers will require proof that you replaced the intake. I got an email from the builder to ensure that they would honor their warranty without me replacing the intake. So, since they are somewhat scarce, I would remove the intake to insure that I do not damage the plastic intake and that I have someplace to mount the chain for the hoist.
I got it out and the new one in. I didn't have to remove the oil filter or cooler, and there were no clearance problems with the oil pan. I did remove the intake and I configured a 3 chain set up to create a lifting point. 1 chain running along the each Intake runner with an intake bolt and washer on the front and the back, then I wrapped a chain around both of them and secured that chain with a bolt.
