TPS and timing issues
I have a 93 idi and I want to know the best way on how to adjust the timing because my rpms at idle are a little higher than normal.
Also my TPS is way off. I dont know if it has to do with the timing. But the voltage is way off. It is actually backwards. If I try to adjust it from where it's at now the overdrive light will start flashing and the trans will go crazy.
I have tried everything I know to try and diagnose it as well as other forums and I'm at a stand still.

Idle speed is adjusted right there on the side of the ip using a screw driver. Look where the accelerator cable hooks and you'll see the adjustment. You want to adjust that with a warm engine, after the cold idle advance is turned off. Once that is set, then you can set and adjust the TPS.

As for engine timing, you might very well need to adjust that but neither of your symptoms are effected by your timing being off, if it is.

I use the old MT2500 or an Analog Voltmeter.
As far as timing goes if you are "Statically Timed" all timing marks matched you should be good enough.
"Dynamic Timing" can only be done with a diesel Timing meter.
The IP gear has 106 teeth and rotates once for every two rotations of the crankshaft (720 degrees). So 720/106 = 6.79245283
1mm movement of the IP mark = 2º .... I've posted this before
