I purchased a bed assembly from
mid fifty and it didn’t come with instructions, I read an article where they said the trucks came either riveted or welded on the side under the 2 Philips screws at the top, I found 1 picture showing rivets and was hoping someone can say what they did with their own, Andy help would be greatly appreciated,thanks Pete
We drilled holes in the front panel, then fill-welded them together. I figured if it is damaged and needs to come apart, I can grind or drill them out.
I wanted a somewhat "stock" look, even though the color was not, so we left a weld bead to look like a rivet.
Those welds came out really nice, I wanted to be able to take mine apart so when it’s painted, I wound up using stainless hex bolts and nuts, also used them instead of the two Phillips screws, while I was at it I capped off the edges next to the tailgate to give it a clean appearance
