It is, but it's the idea that matters.

Its pretty, but that's all. Not any good for carrying stuff, unless its a load of furs

So your saying all those Flairside beds are useless.

I really like the idea of wood bed, however probably not for those using the truck as a work truck and someone who is consistently hauling stuff in the bed. I would love to do it on mine but since my bed is in great shape I can’t justify ripping it out.

Dad bought a F250 new in 1965 for daily farm use to haul livestock, hay, etc. After thirteen Ohio winters the entire truck was so rusty that it was unsafe. The wood bed, however, was still excellent. Wished the succeeding truck had a wood bed because its metal bed was the first thing to rot out. Depends on the species of wood, mind you but I'd pay extra to have a wood bed in a work truck over the paper thin metal that rusts embarrassingly fast in today's trucks.

In many ways, these older trucks were just better designed than today's trucks.

I believe Styleside beds are always steel, unless owner-modified.

The Flairside was what I should have said. I would edit it but you already have. Thanks guys. While I'm here do most of these kinds of mods remove the steel or just lay the wood over it? This one looks to be a lay over.

That's what I've always heard and yet dad's style side (fenders inside bed like the truck shown) had a wood bed. I'm positive dad did not modify the bed. My guess is a customer ordered a customized bed and then backed out of the deal leaving the truck on a dealer lot where my dad found it.

Anyway, dad really liked the wood bed because it lasted so much better than steel. Dad always had the bed covered which kept the sun from drying and warping the boards...maybe that helped it last so long. Dad never treated the wood; he just hauled livestock (sheep, pigs, and some calves) every week so it definitely got used. He'd occasionally fill the truck with ear corn (truck had side boards).

In my late youth I did some time at a dump truck box manufacturing company. Guess what guys. My job was to paint the rough cut 2x6 planks that the floor was made of. Think of excavators dumping dirt and loaders dumping rocks into one of those boxes with a wood floor. They do not dent and you can always unbolt them and replace in the backyard. If you have a metal floor call a body man and hand over your bank account number for the miracle they have to perform.

Go Flareside!!!
