Interchangability between brake boosters

I have a 1977 f250 2wd supercab, and i couldn't find any true information on if a 78 brake booster would fit or not, and by extension, other years.
I do know 4wd brake boosters are different than 2wd, but i dont know what else changes the specs
Both brake boosters are from a 2 piston front end truck

Hey Welcome, welcome!
Yeah, you haven't heard any consensus because there probably isn't one. But you're in luck because there is a discussion just updated today in regard to at least some trucks.
Check out the thread titled "Brake Booster for 79 F350" or similar, started by Country4.2 I think it was. It's here on the first page though, so you can see it easily if you haven't already.
Not sure if it will help in your case, but it might at least add some more info.

One of the problems as you may know is that Ford didn't even use the same style pedal/bracket/booster on every truck even within the same year! Not sure what the criteria was, but someone was smokin' something back then!
I think if you find one of NumberDummy's posts about brakes, if I have my numbers right he says there were something like no less than 15 different combinations. Yikes!

Anyway, sorry I can't help you out, but good luck and have fun with your truck once you get the brakes sorted.

Paul

My 2 cents; If stock factory replacement or upgrade is the goal I say good luck. Aftermarket power boosters are fairly generic single or double diaphram, 7 or 8". They are designed to do two things, fit in a needed space and assist the braking. They are not going to be one better than the other. None are perfect for fitment and will need a little fabrication. Finally if you have a hot motor with low vacuum, boosters are a waste of money, step in the Hydro-Boost which needs power steering pumps.
