If I get a couple of spare minutes this weekend, I will try to check drone level and frequency this weekend with a sound level meter. It may not be a direct comparison because your exhaust is probably different and whatever mods you have may impact the sound characteristics a bit. I think mine is a 4" exhaust with no catalytic converter. That should give you some idea if your cell phone readings are plausible.
I have a resonator kickin' around somewhere, I took it off shortly after I installed it. It did very well with the drone, but it also completely killed the whistle. I wrapped the exhaust on Stinky, and that took care of the drone with him. Now I need to get more wrap to address Frankenstinky's 5" exhaust. The drone with the 5 is downright unbearable.
On the couple cummins trucks i had, a 40" Donaldson eliminated the drone, i think because of the chamber in the middle. The 51" does also but the 40" gives a much throatier sound outside and is more compact. Its very similar to the obs 94-97 mufflers.
If i cant fix mine with 1-2 tries of the 1/4 wave pipe i may drop the obs muffler on there since its laying around. However my drone is barely noticeable, not the ear splitting I have has on inline 6 trucks.
I measured the drone frequency at about 104-106 Hz at 55 mph (roughly the 40-60 seconds range in the images below) and about 114-116 Hz at about 60 mph (roughly the 170-220 second range). This was going up a moderate grade....maybe 2-3%. I've got the 3.73 gear ratio its turning about 1740-1750 rpm at 60 mph.

Did this 40" muffler hurt power at all or could you tell a difference? My local exhaust shop told me not to put in a muffler that has baffles or chambers of any type cause it will kill power. I'm pretty skeptical of that statement cause the resonator I currently have installed is just 4 inch pipe with a corkscrew/grain auger on the inside.

no sir, the 5.9 i put it one was just over 500 hp to the wheels making 44psi
its straight thru but has a drone chamber in the middle . If you look it up the flow numbers are something.
pm me for more info if you like i dont wanna totally hijacks dan’s thread
