my wife started having problems with her a/c. I had it checked out and was told the expansion valve was bad. I ordered both and changed them myself. I brought it to a friend that does a/c work. he pulled a vacuum and charged the system. since then it was never really cold and the compressor was always cycling on for maybe a minute at a time and back off for a minute or more. it never gets the cabin cold..
i talked to another guy and was told the compressor was bad... so i oredered a brand new one, installed it, pulled a vacuum for about 45 minutes, and recharged the system again. it gets colder now but is still cycling and will not get the cabin cold. since the new compressor has the low psi switch on it i went ahead and bought the new high psi switch too...
nothing has made this thing work right.. somebody help me out before i burn this damn thing.
Get somebody who knows what they are doing and has a set of gauges. Check both the high and low side pressures. Do it according to the book taking into account the outside temperature. I'll bet you'll find the system is improperly charged. These systems are very particular about charge levels.

I have gauges. The low side was around 45psi, high side around 225psi. Ambient temp was around 85. And I went by pressure from a chart I have.
Those pressures sound right on. The next thing I'd look at is the HVAC box and assorted doors. If the pressures are connect, which they seem to be, that would indicate that the evaporator is getting sufficiently cold but you're not passing enough air across it. Check that the evaporator core isn't plugged with dirt or debris, that the cabin air filter is clean and that the various blend doors are working properly. With a thermometer in the dash vent does switching to max a/c make a difference? Max a/c closes the outside air door. Is the discharge air colder when the engine is first started cold compared to after it warms up. If so that could indicate that hot air from the heater core is leaking into the cabin.
It actually sounds like the refrigeration system is working properly and the problem might be something mechanical.
P.S. When you changed the compressor did you verify the proper amount of refrigeration lubricant?
