I am keeping an eye out for some " different " bumpers and my truck is disassembled and I don't have original bumpers . Can someone measure the front width with the consideration that I may find something that wraps to some extent around the front fenders . The rear is less crutial but my box is complete so I can check on that . Thanks in advance .
Yes much more along those lines charlieled . I will be eliminating as many square edges as possible . I find the sharp square edges such as the bumpers , the front top of the box , the box vertical supports , the running board edges and other places kind of out of place on a predominantly rounded smooth body . How many I change will depend on my patience , time and the complexity of doing it . Do you have any info on that pic you posted ?
That is the bumper on my 56 F100, it started out life on a 56 Chevy truck. I believe that all tri-five truck bumpers are the same. I started out by fabricating custom bumper mounting brackets and welding mounting studs in the bumper bar. This cleaned up the mounting part of the job. Next I trimmed the edges of the bumper bar to fit the contour of the fenders/valence...this is a little more art than science but if you don't take off too much material at any given time you can massage it into place nicely.
I was originally hoping to find a factory bumper that would work but after doing a little checking it seems that getting something chromed isn't much difference in price so that definitely opens up the options . Do you have any more pics ?
