Yes I do have the plastic inserts. My concern it the metal post that sticks out, that the plastic insert attaches to. The top one (top picture) is solidly attached to the window molding and the bottom one wiggles back and forth. The bottom 2 pictures show how much it moves from side to side. Both sides of the truck are like this. Is that normal? Should both the top and bottom be solid?
If they're riveted, put the head down on something hard. Use something like a ball bearing, round head screw, etc. that is slightly too big to fit in the back side of the rivet and tap it with a hammer to crimp the rivet more. Or use a small punch and work your way around the rivet. You want to squish the rivet out and down to crimp both the sides of the hole and the face of the trim. If you just hammer it flat, it won't be tight to the walls of the hole and could still shift side to side slightly. I'd probably throw some epoxy on it after recrimping the rivets also, just as insurance.
