I am looking at buying a 2017 King Ranch. It does not have the emblem on the tailgate in the photos on the dealer's website. The salesperson I talked to said he thought it was the original tailgate, but he could not possibly know for sure. My question is: Would a lariat (or other) tailgate work/fit/attach on a King Ranch and if it did, would there be some functions missing?
It is. Everything else is King Ranch and I checked the CarFax and the original window sticker was posted on Ford Direct or whatever it is. Do you happen to know what a King Ranch tailgate comes with for options/is supposed to have? It is the ultimate.
I dont know exactly what a 2017 King Ranch would come standard with. Reverse cam is standard on all trims, I think, tail gate step is optional but probably included with the Ultimate package. Also, the higher trims get the tailgate damper.
Thanks for the info. If anyone else has anything on this I'd appreciate it. It isn't the end of the world if I don't have the exact tailgate, but I'd at least like to use that info as a bargaining chip on price.
...looking at photos of 2017 King Ranch trucks, the only difference I see is that small badge on the center left. Its possible the previous owner didn't like it and removed it. Functionality a King Ranch tailgate doesn't have anything that a Lariat and up might have.
I had a 17 KR with ultimate. It should have the damper, back up cam and the tailgate step. It could have been stolen and when replaced no badge or like someone else said it was owner debadeged.

If the KR tailgate was stolen or damaged then anyone who can afford a 2017 KR would have full coverage insurance, thus the replacement work would have been done through a body shop, not Craigslist. A body shop will order all replacement decals/emblems to return to factory appearance.
Does the rest of the truck have the KR equipment/badging? Examples: The running W all over the seats and center console, floor mats? Does the F250 badge below the mirrors say KING RANCH on it? If so, it's likely the previous owner removed the tailgate badge. Your dealer should be able to provide you a free Carfax to tell if there was a body shop claim on it.
IIRC, there were 2 different tailgates on the King Ranch trim. If the truck had the chrome package the tailgate got the full width chrome treatment. If the truck did not have the chrome package it got a small 4 or 6 inch King Ranch badge on the left side of the tailgate.

The truck you are looking at should have one of these two tailgate badging options. If the front and rear bumpers are painted it should have the same tailgate as the red truck and if the bumpers are chrome it should have the same tailgate as the White Gold truck.
It does not have the chrome package. Everything else is King Ranch (wheel caps, emblem by the doors, seats, etc.) and neither the Car Fax or the Auto Check had anything about any accident/replacement work.
