Wondering if my 65 4wd four spoke wheel will fit oh a 2wd column? I’m thinking about using a 2wd column from a 65-66 in my 65 F100 4wd cab. I would be doing PS at the same time and know if need to fab a lower mount but would also like to keep my four spoke wheel.
The nut at the top end of the column that holds the wheel on is the same and I do believe the splines are the same size. So, it might work. My concern would be the size of the steering wheel base and column bowls - making it work with the horn button and turn signal switch. The original 4 spoke wheels are about 4 1/4" in diameter at the base and same as the bowl. The 2WD steering wheel and bowl is about 3 5/8". That leaves about 5/8" difference between the base of the 4 spoke steering wheel and the outside diameter of the 2WD bowl. The location that the horn brush sits at in the 4 spoke wheel makes it seem like it wouldn't land in a good spot for the 2WD turn signal switch. I don't think you could put a 4WD turn signal switch into a 2WD bowl. Those switches are completely different how they fasten to the bowl. I guess anything can be done, that just sounds like a lot of work. I think some use the original column and just cut and support it at the bottom end with a bracket and bearing, remove the Gemmer steering gearbox and make a shaft with u-joints and D-connectors to go from the end of your existing cut off column to the new PS steering gearbox.
Craig, steering columns are one of the most modifiable parts in the truck. I have seen all kinds of subs worked in. Cars trucks vans, all. See what you want yours to look like when finished and go for it.

Yea I go back and forth on weather I’ll want PS on this truck or not. Probably just reseal the factory box and see what I think once it’s on the road.
