strange request

Could someone help me out? I want to build a tire mount that sits on the front bumper/grill so my spare will ride up front, old school style. I would really appreciate it if someone who has one of these older style mounts could take some digital pictures of it so I can see how it mounts, and where.

Functional, but I could never have one on the front of my truck.
looks like a sore thumb.

Does it cut down on cooling too?

thanks for the picture! Looks like it will be easy to fabricate. I had guessed that it would connect somewhere at the top of the radiator cowl. Jackflack- I like sore thumbs! On a 4x4 it looks cool(to me), and will allow me to add a second fuel tank behind the rear axel.

71 4x4 390,

Nice truck! I love the 71 front grilll, best of all those years 67-72. I just can't see putting that tire up front. How about in the side of the inside of the bed?

I thought of doing that, my spare is in the bed now and I have had to move it around too many times to fit loads in. I'd rather get it out of the cargo area and leave the bed empty.
I live in Spain and there are lots of Land-Rovers here(not the Yuppy versions, the Marlin Perkins kind), and many have the spares on the hood or in front. I think I'll fit in, and go for the safari look. I hope to post some new photos soon of the truck and myself 4x4in' when I return from deployment. Southern Spain has some cool places to go, and when you can get castles and towns from the days of the Romans in the back drops it makes for some good pictures!

How about hooking up a swing away in the back?
Keep the front unobstructed?

I have had a couple pickups with the tire up front. On the plus side it is easy to get to and you will usually notice if it is low. It is also great for pushing dear vehicles around. The negatives are looks, having it in the way when you want to work under the hood, and cooling restriction. It actually used to void the warranty on some makes. I personally never had a cooling problem but all mine were on non a/c stick shifts.

70 ranger:

No, I don't know the colors, but if yours are original, then you should be able to figure it out using a VIN decoder. There are many places on the net that will do this for you. I'm getting a new paint job this winter but I think I will just paint the whole truck the original green color. I'm not too crazy about the two tone paint scheme. It will tell you what colors are what using your code.

Pushing little cars around is a plus! But let me tell you all that I don't venture into the old parts of towns. The narrow streets and manual steering are a recipe for disaster! I speek from expirance on that one. It's not that the roads are too tight, but Europeans park thier cars where ever they can.

Jackflack- I've never seen a swing unit on a PU, would a Jeep type one work? I think it would be a pain when it came time to drop the tailgate and load stuff. (?)

My 71 2x4 had factory mounts for 2, yes 2 spare tires that mounted upright inside the bed by the cab, but I have removed the mounts and I am going to find one of those winches that suck the spare back up under the bed behind the rear bumper. I will have to go to a pick-n-pull and find one, then fabricate a mounting bracket. I think late model Dodge PU used them.

I wonder how difficult it will be to pop the hood latch on the front mount spare with the spare mounted?
