Dynomax headers

just installed Dynomax headers..
very tight fit next to the starter, don't think
there's enough room even for a heat shield..
Running catco high flow converters, with
2.5" pipes everything is stright back until
the muffler which is a Dynmax Turbo,
offset in\out to match the hangers, But
think I'll move the hanger closer to the
muffler body... used all pipeing from
pep boys... local muffler shop wanted
$500 to install the exhaust system... ouch..
i'm into the job for about $300 now..
After the headers were installed I gave the
engine a 10 minute warm up to see were
any leaks might be, I noticed it was i idleing
very fast, 750rpm, so I had to back off the
idle screw..
Does anyone have an idea why this happnedd.
I was thinking that the volume of air intake was
great so more vacume at the carb port making
the distributor advace to far,,,
if I bring the rpm up to 1700 the engine bogs
down and wants to die...
Best
Dave
ps: in my case the header bolts they sent
me were SS but were 3/8 x 3/4 and would
not start in the heads, so I had them send me
a set of longer bolts 3/8 x 1.00 they worked
fine..
I bought the headers, cats, and mufflers
from Summit racing... and saved alot of
money...

Switching to a decent header and high-flow exhaust system will improve breathing, and thereby change the engine's volumetric efficiency.

Any time you change the engine's breathing characteristics, carb adjustments are required.

You may have to adjust the carb's fuel/air mixture as well. Carbs tend to run a bit leaner when you improve exhaust system scavenging.
