Looking at finalizing an order for a 2020 Lariat this week. Wasn't even thinking about vinyl flooring as an option until I saw it in the truck I test drove. A couple of questions that I haven't seen answers to in previous threads:
What is the difference between the basic vinyl (carpet delete) option in the lower trim levels and the premium vinyl in the higher trim levels? I test drove a Platinum and was very impressed with the floor. I'm concerned I'll be disappointed with a lower quality product.
For those that have the basic vinyl, how has it worn over time? Any problems? I'll likely still get the WeatherTech or Husky liners, but I'm concerned about tears or punctures from tool or dog claws.
The trucks above Lariat have a cost associated because they come with 2 sets of floor mats.
If it doesn’t come with the driver side tabs in your Lariat you can get them for a few bucks. I would run floor mats.
Besides all that, to answer the general question... I like the vinyl in my platinum. It is much more “sanitary” but I work on construction sites and always have muddy boots.
I just order one with rubber floors. Ford makes special mats that clip in and don't slide for the rubber floors.I would doubt that you would wear the rubber floor out especially with mats.https://accessories.ford.com/interio...mat-11831.html
I have a 2006 xl with over 200,000 miles it has the vinyl floor. Other than some mud stains it looks like new. In wet areas I like it because carpet never get a chance to dry out and starts to smell. Plus cleaning is a whole lot easier, Just hose scrub and rinse out.
My '17 STX has the vinyl floors. No problems but I cover them with Husky snap in mats. All easy to clean. This is my first truck without carpet and I will never have carpet again in any future truck.
I ordered my Lariat with the carpet delete. I love the vinyl floor. I have a 2010 XL 450 with whatever stock vinyl came then. Its 100% work truck with different guys using it. Tools thrown on the floor. Salt.. mud.. mortar.. dog crap.. Hosed out only for 10 years and if I were so inclined.. A bit of a scrub and some Armorall and it would look like new. If that truck had carpet it would look like a faded stained rats nest.
The Lariat is not the premium vinyl. Its soft due to underlayment. Feel durable and plush. And comes with 2 buttons per side to hold mats. I went with the Husky Exact fit. They fit perfect and feel good. They also direct salt water and slop over the door sill if it gets that full.
Which brings the one issue I can complain about. The gap between the door sill and carpet/vinyl... is the lowest point of the floor. So any liquid on the floor collects there... And flows down into a structural channel that does not drain. There is also a plastic channel there with main wiring harness... So liquid goes straight in and stays. I have a thread here from a few weeks back where a jug of bleach leaked about a pint or half pint onto my rear floor. It went into that channel. I spent hours sopping and rinsing to get the bleach out. From the rear it flowed to the front. I ended up drilling a hole straight through the plastic channel and the structural channel for my rinse to drain out. It sucked.
I did not get the rear floor mat because theres almost never anyone in the back seat. I just use it with the seat up for locked storage and grocery getting.
That would happen with carpet as well and I think the outcome would have been worse with carpet. Or salt for that matter.
I have 12,000 miles so no word on the durability of the vinyl in the Lariat. But it still looks new. Bleach did nothing to it.
With this friggin virus... food shopping and placing things I might consider contaminated back there.... I just clean the floor easy.
I ordered my Peterbuilts with rubber floor. Trucks with sleepers had vinyl up front and carpet in the sleeper only...
I would never order a truck with carpet again. If I saw one I liked on the lot and it had carpet that would have no bearing on purchase. The floor mats work great.
I have the basic vinyl flooring in my 2017 Xl, I installed Husky floor mats 2 years ago and the floors still looks like new. I have three dogs and they are no issue with the basic vinyl at all.
As mentioned in post 8. I had to drill a hole through the body under the plastic door seal in a 2016 F150 (same as these Alumidutys). It was an XL and I really didnt care about it and neither did the employees that had it.
Was pretty nasty and I mopped it out with extra extra water and it got down there. It was forsale and I had to get the stinky water out. I did a sloppy quick and dirty preclean on it before taking it to the detailer.
With that said you cant just hose it out and anything that spills goes down in that channel.
Worked fine, I wasn’t worried about it. But they need to put a plug in there as I wouldnt want to do that on my platinum or personal truck.

Imagine realizing you need to drill a hole in your brand new truck.... Theres no other way. Im still debating weather to open the hole a bit larger and doing one on each side. Then using some Fluid film or undercoating to seal it all. That way things can drain.
My friend had a SD in his shop with wirong issues. A 17 where some young guy had changed all the lights and done a bunch of wiring extra lights... In looking for the source of the issues he pulled the cover off the door sill... He said... No one told me this truck was in a flood....
All that was from guys getting in with muddy wet boots. I don't like the design. And just too much wiring.
Something to think about.
I work for a big fleet, and all our trucks are ordered with the vinyl floors. The F series vinyl floors are O.K., but usually wear through in a few years under the brake pedal if you don't throw a mat on them. Have to say the GM and Ram vinyl floors are noticeably thicker and more durable.
From what I've heard, the higher trims might have more sound proofing under the vinyl. After switching to vinyl floors, ill never go back to carpet. Floor mats are a must for me no matter what the floors.
