'01 Ranger "pre-runner" front bumper
On to the pics but being this is the internet it's perhaps important to note I am not a great (or arguably even good) welder and I suck even more at welding tube. I would say I'm a decent fabricator (metalworking is more than just laying a bead, eh?) so I can make things happen, it's just that the welds won't be stellar. My buddy is paying under $300 (materials and labor) for this bumper, so any deduction for welding skill is well accounted for. The bender used is just a JD2 M3 and it's been 10 years since I bent anything with more than a single 90.
I'm not saying this is a good design, merely that maybe it'll give someone ideas for a future project.
Bumper sitting on the floor. Construction is 1.5" HREW
Attaches to a previous forward-facing bumper bracket and a slotted hole in the framerail
Center of vehicle looking toward driver side, framerail bolts are accessed thru hole-sawed windows
The two attachment points show above are threaded inserts, 1/2-20 in this case. Being that I'm technically a machinist I just made the inserts on my lathe(s).
Skidplate bracing utilizes these two existing holes in the factory crossmember. I'm sure I'm not the first to do this but I didn't look at other aftermarket designs.
I just came up with a simplistic and minimalist layout for a few skidplate holes, dimple-died. In highsight should have striven for more of a triangle design.
