Early 1999 Airbox issue

I was just made aware that my 99 had an airbox recall. I bougt it used and was not the owner during the recall. Can someone get me up to speed on what I need to do and what the issue was? Something about water leaking in? My airfilters get dirty quick thats for sure and here in Oregon there is lots of rain, so let me know what the issue is please. Thanks!

The early 99 airbox draws air from the fender. You want to upgrade to a 99.5 box which draws air from the grill next to the radiator.

Isn't the AIS also made with a conversion kit to fit the early 99s?

I'd go that route and bypass the 99.5 mod if possible.
