Hello. I've been on a bunch trying to figure out our cruise issue. Truck is an 02 f250 extended cab v10. 67k miles. Clockspring, good. New ABS sensor, cruise still no worky. Installed rear diff speed sensor, but was a beach. Bolt had rusted into diff. Drove truck to store to get burlier 1/4 drive extension with rear abs plug disconnected. ABS light on cause sensor not connected. I got the new sensor in ABS light is still on and of course no cruise. Do I have to reset the fault on comp?
betcha its the cruise control switch on the master cylinder. The switch goes bad and the cruise quits. Wont come on. Disconnect the battery should clear the abs light.
First thing I did was replace the and switch in the master cylinder. Installing a back up camera on our camper today so gonna disconnect battery. Hopefully that's the holdup
1999 V10 6.8L SuperCab. My cruise control went dead for about 5 years. I tried a few things to remedy (Brake master cylinder switch, Steering wheel contact cleaner, ect) but nothing fixed it. I figured the next thing would be the clock spring. Every time I drove the truck I tried the Cruise Control, NG. Until just about a month ago, it actually came on and WORKED!!! I couldn't believe it! It started to comer back on occasionally, because I tried it EVERY time I ran the truck. Now it's ALMOST back to completely normal. Without a doubt the more I use it, the more it's functioning normal. So now I turn it on even if I'm only going 2 blocks away!!! Fingers crossed that it stays!!!
Okay, not sure where to look next. 67k 02 F250, V10. Meticulously maintained by original owner. I have replaced sensor in master cylinder, as well as the abs sensor in rear diff. Horn works but no love from cruise control buttons. Any other ideas?
Sorry I couldn't give you any exact science on this one Gorilla2891. It was like chasing a ghost. The closer the day came to doing the clock spring, the more it started working. Voodoo!!! As a last resort, remove the airbag and spray contact cleaner directly under the steering wheel switches. I can't say weather this was the fix or not, but little by little it started working again. This has proved to me that there is NOTHING wrong with the actual mechanics of the cruise control circuit, it was just getting the contacts to complete the connection...I think???
I had the same sort if issue. It turned out to be the clock spring. If you get a new one I recommend you get from Ford. The one I got was actually cheaper from Ford than Rock Auto.
