I would just never pay for it. It sounds like garbage. I wouldn’t use it if it was free.
When satellite radio first came out it was close to CD quality. What they’ve done is continue to cut the bitrate so they can add more channels and now it all sounds like you’re listening to hold music on the telephone. I listen to FM or MP3’s on a thumb drive or stream from my phone.
I pay annually on 2 vehicles, but have been getting the $70 rate every year for a long time. Same experience as everyone else, just call them once a year to threaten to cancel and they change it. Not a long call. You do have to give them a CC. One thing I can add, ours renews in December and due to travel for work and holiday there have been a couple years I miss calling until after they posted the new higher charge. One call like always and they refund the correct amount.
Prior to the end of the 6 month free trail, I was offered another 3 months for $2, I went for it. The catch was that I had to cancel before the 3 months was up or I would get charged monthly after that, I think. Well, when I called in to cancel they also canceled the 5 year trial (over 4 years remaining) of travel link. What an incredible pain in the **** to resolve that. If any of you have time remaining on your trial of travel link, but decide to cancel the audio service, make it very clear that you do not want them to cancel the travel link too.
I have had offers from them at $60/year, not sure of what all was included. I really don't place much value in XM radio, even $5/month is more than I'm willing to pay.
I hear you on the travel link issue! Same thing happened to me, called and cancelled radio subscription, they also cancelled travel link. Didn’t know it until I went to use it a week or so later, I bet I was on the phone for over an hour trying to get them to turn it back on. I just kept telling them, why would I cancel something that was free for 5 years?! What a headache.
I bought lifetime back in 2008 for like $400. I think it was around $10 a month then and I planned to keep that truck at least 6 years. Like everyone mentioned I wouldn’t pay much over $5 as there is other apps you can get.
Its a bitch to transfer it vehicle to vehicle so I just use my phone app. Carplay doesnt work too well with the app, pandora is much easier. I like SiriusXM for the news channels if I am driving in the evening. Sound quality is way better off the phone app.
The person who bought my old truck probably still has access to it but when I had it occasionally the satellite signal would ‘drop’ and you would have to call and ask them to hook it back up.
Next question is. I paid by check my 1st year, im guessing if I call and try to get the 70.00 a year pricing they are gonna want a
credit card. I'm not wanting to do that, cause i dont want to be at the mercy of their automatic renewing at what ever pricing they feel when it comes each year.
Or have to spend hours trying to cancel the sub if I decided down the road I dont want it anymore .
So the 70.00 rates you guys are getting is with a c.c and automatic renewal ?
I learned this several years and trucks ago. NEVER pay them with a credit card. They'll auto renew you and you'll play hell trying to get a refund. You're more likely to be offered future credit if you negotiate the price down.
I've paid by check or with my bank's bill pay service for several years now. I control payment, not SXM.
This post is a good reminder to check my account. I put the account on hold when I bought the current truck in September 2019 to use up my free 6 months from Ford and I'm past that 6 month window now so I should see where I'm at.
My wife bought herself a new Chrysler 300 late summer 2016. She's still getting the free SXM that came with the car. They send her notices to buy service, she ignores them. Yet the service continues with no bills. One day I'm sure she'll start the car and the service will be over. But it's been a free ride for nearly 4 years.
To the OP, I would not worry too much about using your CC to get the best rate. As stated by others, it is fairly straight forward to deal with them on the phone although it may be a 20 minute call. I don't use XM but when the trial period was up for renewal I was planning a long road trip the next month. So I signed up for 3 month renewal with auto renewal for a low price. Before the next billing cycle I called to cancel. It went very smoothly. No issues. They did try to keep me as a customer with lower rates but I was not interested.
It wouldn't hurt to ask a lot of questions during your renewal phone call and jot down the answers along with the date/time of the call and the name of the person you spoke with. You likely will not need it. For the rate you are paying, can you cancel anytime? Will they contact you if the price changes prior to renewal date? (I think I got an email) If they charge your card in violation of what they told you then you can always dispute the charges. I doubt you will ever have a problem though.
Easy. Just call them right before your current promo contract price ends and ask for current discount offers.
They offered me 3 options. I selected the 12 mo for $60 plus the bs fees.
I called one day before my last promo contract expired. You can see in my bill they credited me 20 cents for the unused one day remaining on my old promo.
Oh yeah, even if you screw up and don’t remember to call before promo expires, call them now. They will credit unused cost you paid at higher rate and put you on new promo fee.
I usually take several camping trips a year and many of the areas I go do no have great, or any wifi to stream Pandora or else I wouldn't use Sirius. It is nice to have something to listed to while out in BFE. It just irks me that with 10,000 stations, I can rarely find anything I like to listed to, and even though they bill themselves as "commercial free," the stupid DJs are ALWAYS talking. Just play some damn music. I don't need to listed to how you went to such and such a concert back in 1987 or name drop or brag how big you used to be 40 years ago. And on the news stations, I still have to listen to Mahindra or Male enhancement commercials....
Never paid for it, never will. The last vehicle I purchased that came with the 6 month sub. I think I used it for about 10 minutes. Why pay for a service that has more commercials than the ground based radio?
This winter I bought a 64Gb USB drive (about 15 bucks), and loaded my entire music collection onto it, about 4000 songs (about 1/3 the drives capacity). Plugged it into the console and control what you listen to yourself.
