Well a year or so ago I purchased a NOS boxed E1TZ-9600-AJ aircleaner, it does not fit my holley sniper, the base of the air cleaner is considerably larger than the carburetor aircleaner mounting base. I looked at the aircleaner and apparently its been swapped into the wrong box as the aircleaner has a sticker saying E3TZ-9600-TA. Not sure what that goes to but it wont work.
Took my OE aircleaner off my truck and it fits but needs to be raised up 1/2" via a spacer to clear the simulated float adjustment screws in the throttlebody.
So my question is what are some options I can look into, to replace my aircleaner? I tried looking up mustangs but most of the hits I get are dual snorkel setups which I cant run. I really just need the base as mine is all split apart and falling apart. Took me a year and a half of searching to find the one I found and its not even the right one as its been reboxed.
I thought all Ford air filter bases be it for a v2 or v4 carb had the same size opening for the carb?
Only thing I can think of that may have a larger opening and it is a long shot would be a diesel to fit on the air filter adaptor its not an intake manifold.
As a long shot what trucks came with a Holley v4 carb that would clear the float adjusters?
I still think any v2 or v4 base will work with any Holley carb.

That's the thing I don't know what this air filter is for. the box its in says E1TZ-9600-AJ which is what I need for my 302 and it will also fit a 351w. The sticker on the air filter says E3TZ-9600-TA. I looked at all ford trucks with V8`s on the parts guy and saw no TA code in there.
I measured the air cleaner where it mounts to the carb and center to center shows 5 9/16" for the mount. The Sniper Stealth I have which is basically the same size as a 4150 carb measures at its smallest of 5" and at the edge of its flange 5 1/2" which puts this aircleaner very close to fitting. I think to make this one work I would have to make an adapter plate that is 5" to fit the throttle body then have it circular out to 5 5/8" to give the aircleaner something to sit on. But to do this would require I position the aircleaner then mark the inside of the adapter to place locating pegs to position the airfilter properly.
This is a photo of the airfilter base sitting centered on the 4150 Sniper Stealth.
And this photo is shifting the aircleaner all the way over to one side to show how much larger the aircleaner carb mounting is compared to the 4150 Sniper Stealth.
Don't know if this is possibly a diesel application or not. I know it has the vacuum switch in the lid for controlling the hot air/cold air vacuum motor on the snorkel as well as having a PCV filter located on the driver side where it is located at on my 302.

Why can't you run a Mustang 5.0 GT air cleaner? Rick and I are both running them on 302 trucks, mine an '84 w/o AC, and his an '85 w/ factory AC.
Rusty, have you looked at Summit or Jegs to see if you can get an adapter? I had to run an adapter on my 71 Oldsmobile to use the OE air cleaner since I went to a Summit carburetor (Holley 4010 clone).
I think the air cleaner you have is for a variable venturi carb, I am pretty sure they were bigger. You should have no problem finding a air cleaner to fit your throttle body. I am not sure why you would want to build a high performance motor and the use a single exhaust and a single snorkel air cleaner?

That is still an option. Not sure I want to spend $200 - $300 for a used aircleaner though which is what the mustang HO cleaners are going for. The only questionable problem I might have is with my AC as my truck is dealer AC with a york compressor. I really do like the idea of a dual snorkel setup but not sure it would clear my AC.

I take a look at that, I dont mind if the air cleaner sits up slightly, probably need to anyways as it feels like the simulated float adjustment screws are just barely touching the NOS aircleaner.

Well I am having a problem finding a OE aircleaner, only one I am finding thats not all split and broken up are the 5.0/5.8 HO dual snorkel aircleaners which I do not believe will clear my dealer AC setup. If I had the OE compressor that was length wise instead of width wise I probably would be fine.
As far as high performance goes, the engine is still a 306 cid displacement, the 2 1/2" to 2 1/4" OE pipes were big enough for a 351W so they should be well over adequate for a 306 cid setup. I also wouldnt call it high performance since most of it is just more efficent bolt on parts with a power band of 1,400 - 5,400 rpm. The air cleaner wouldnt be restrictive either as if it was enough to feed air flow for a 351 cid engine it should be well over enough to supply enough air for a 306 that wont turn more than 5,500 rpm. The throttle body is the thing that is over kill but this is the smallest one they offer which is good to 600 hp.
