I have a 96 F250 7.5L 5 Speed 4x4. It's been sitting the past few weeks while I rebuild the front steering system, and ran it fine before I parked it. I try and start it to cycle my power steering because I replaced the steering gear box, and its running like crap with the check engine light on. I try 2 different code readers and get no communication from the computer. I also tried the paper clip method to read check engine flashes and nothing. At this point I'm thinking its the ECM, my calibration code is 6-97A-ROO and it is a OBD 1 system. I can't seem to find a re-manufactured ECM F6TZ 12A650-BFA any where. My question is there another model that will work with 7.5L manual trans 4x4?
I've found a few on EBAY, I guess this particular ECM is rare due to the price of it and not being able to find it at part stores. Is it safe to assume that if you can't get the ECM to communicate that it's faulty? I was willing to roll the dice at $100-$150 price point, but $250 and up, I want to be a little more sure.
@cougrrcj Unfortunately it lets you get all the way to the check out part, then it pulls the chair from under you and says it's not available. Advance & O'reillys got me like that too.

Not until you check to make sure you have power going to the PCMs power pins (1, 37, & 57) and the PCM has a good ground on its pins (20, 40 & 60).
Also make sure the wiring from the PCM (pin 17) to the cluster MIL lamp is good.
