I recently swapped from a 4 speed to a ZF5 and the transmission and clutch where working great. I then had to pull the motor to do some work (4.9l) and after installing the motor again the clutch no longer works. The strange part is that when I first jump in I'll have no clutch activation, then after pumping the pedal 30 or so times the clutch will work for a few hours then slowly fade away and I'll need to pump it back up. Does anyone have any experience with this? And also its not losing any fluid or low on any fluid.
I had some issues bleeding it when I first installed it but that was because I was being an idiot and forgot to take rubber cap out of the master cylinder. I took it to a shop and had them bleed it and and it worked great until I pulled to motor.
Heres an update, I looked around and the hose was fine. Somehow the clutch has fixed itself, Its just working now. I don't completely trust it after this happened but Im using it for now, I'll pull the system apart when I pull the transmission again which should be soon. Thanks for the help.
In my experience, things don't fix themselves, they just wear down to the "new normal" haha.
If I had to guess, somehow in the process air was introduced into the system, or perhaps a rogue air bubble finally made its way out. I would definitely wipe everything down, drove 50 miles or so, and see if there are any wet hydraulic fluid spots anywhere on the line or connections.
