I drove the truck for an hour yesterday, had the check engine light come on. When I got home I pulled the codes, and got: 122,172,176,186, 189. I don't understand what the last 4 mean.
122= TPS circuit below min voltage.
172= system indicates lean ( bank 1)
176= system indicates lean ( bank 2 )
186= injector pulsewidth higher or MAF lowerthan expected (w/out BARO sensor)
189= fuel system at rich adaptive limit at part throttle,system lean (bank 2)
Start by making sure your TPS is working right and then move on to check your fuel pressure. What does it drive like? Does it act like it's running out of gas or does it have a dead spot until you have your foot far enough in it? Sounds like your TPS is dead or your computer isn't getting the signal.
Is everyones connection on this site slooooow today or is it just mine?
I tryed switching the tps with my friends truck, and it helped alot, and there were no more codes. The thing is there was still that dead spot, it just doesn't drive to it's fullest.
I put the new tps in, and it idles and runs better, but still has that dead spot. I'v ed replaced the fuel filter like 1000 miles ago. I don't know what else it could be. Got any ideas? I don't want to have to take it into a shop, beacuse I already have to drop a new engine into my 4banger. Thanks for the help
I'm currently out of ideas but I'll keep thinking. If you are no longer getting codes I think maybe go back and check timing and fuel pressure. May be runnning lean.
What does running "lean" mean? I think thats what some of the codes were, I started getting the same codes as before. When I accelerate I get this rattling under the hood then the check engine light comes on. I don't know what the problem is, but I don't want to have to take it to the shop.
"running lean" means that you either have too much air or not enough gas. Ideally we want to burn 14 parts air to 1 part gas....if we burn less gas(18 or 20 parts air to 1 part fuel) we are running "lean". Think of it this way....if you have a "constant supply of air" (all that the motor can suck in) but your fuel pressure drops resulting in less flow, you will have a leaner mix.
