I am in the process of purchasing a new 2003 Limited 4x2 Excursion built in January, 2003. I have been told that the first six months of production, the owners have been the testers of these newly designed 6.0L Turbodiesel engines. What type of problems can I expect to encounter? What is my chance of having no problems with the engine? Or should I get out of the deal & purchase a newer model. Thanks.
I went around to four dealers and bought the truck with the newest VIN and build date. Why take any risk when all you have to do is shop around a little? I've been very happy and I don't expect that to change. Nor do I have a naggin' fear that I I might have injector issues.
There are a few VIN decoders on the web, unfortunetly I didn't save the book mark for 'em.
After looking around a little you'll know generally when a certain VIN is built.
I can tell you that that truck will have the c94 injectors not the new c95 injectors... some have had issues with those injectors.
I have an Engine build date of April 3, 03 and should have the c94's alos, but the only issues I've had were related to the 'bad' flash I got in June ...
Mine is in for the new flash and I hope I am happy with it when I get it back as most have reported with the new flash...
We'll see...
But overall, I've been estatic with my Ex !
You should be able to work a real DEAL on that one if you decided to go with it...
but remember, there's a reason it's been on the lot that long !
