Rusty front frame cross member
plus the lower A frames. We have been advised to scrap it. That's not an option. Does someone
have a picture of that part from a parts book or a shop manual? I want to forward it to our body shop
tonight or early Tues. morning.

We had an '02 Escape in UPSTATE New York where we've lived all our lives. We had similar rust due to NY and the salt/cinder mix.
If you're been advised to scrap the vehicle, I would be willing to bet that the rusted cross member and A frames are only part of that assessment. Even though we had the full Ziebart treatment on ours prior to buying it new, there was rust in other places that were not worth the effort to fix. Sub frames, weld points, ect... all suffer similar rusting in any vehicle. The tipping point on ours was when the lower radiator frame broke and the relatively rust free vehicle (appearance wise) had a hood that would no longer latch closed due to flexing of the upper frame. There is a support that goes down the center from top to bottom that was flapping in the breeze.....
Could I have had that repaired? sure. But what next after that, then after that? Before you know it, you've spent more repairing than you would have replacing the vehicle and the cross member isn't t typically replaceable part. I'm certain the bill would be considerable considering the amount of work it would require.
If the mechanic you've trusted to do your repairs is advising, you might do well to listen. Refusing to replace an unsafe vehicle should never be an option.
