I am building a new barn to store all of my toys in. My bumper pull toy hauler length is only 25 ft overall but I would like to build the barn and RV door big enough to fit a large RV into for resale purposes since so manyt people love these moster sized RV's. The RV will have to be backed into on an angle but would be straight before it enters the barn.. What size door and how deep in dimension should I build the barn? I am willing to go as deep as 50 ft but of course I would like to keep it 40 to 45 foot deep. I was thinking a 14 ft clearance roll up door that was at least 14 ft wide and maybe even 16 ft. Any input from experience would be greatly appreciated.
Since there are a lot of 40-43' rv's out there, I would think 50' minimum for parking. That way you can park it and walk around it also. A 14' door should be plenty at long as you are straight entering the barn. If still straightening as you enter, 14' should still work, but 16' would be better.
I am in the middle of erecting a 45' by 25' that's 14' at the eaves with a 12' high by 20' opening on one end. My trailer is 11' 6" high so it just fits. This gives me enough room to park my 40' Denali trailer just off the center and be able to walk around it with the slides out for servicing and maintenance. If it was a 5th wheel it'd never clear the door opening.
I built a 14 x 42 on the end of my existing buildings a few years back for the 5th wheel, it has 15 ft sidewalls with a 12ft wide x 14ft high door. Because of the way I built it I was able to get it in a shorter sidewall. The only regret is the 14ft width because I can't open the slides all the way insude the building, because of property line setbacks I couldn't go any wider without removing part of my existing building.
We went with a 44’x28’ double garage. I wanted to have a 48’x32’ building, but I needed to avoid a sewer line, plus I wanted to keep the building on the smaller size so it didn't overwhelm the neighborhood......it still looks big.
We have a 16’ ceiling with 12’x13’9” doors. The 12’ door width allows me a little wiggle room when backing in my 36’ 5th wheel, and the 13’9” height allows anything road legal at 13’6” in the door.
We had our structure built earlier this year. 30x50 with 14’x14’ rollup door. I start backing in straight and then angle back end toward driver side wall. With the rollup door up the opening is actually about 13’10”. The rollup door is not centered with the end of the building. It is about 7’ from the corner.
In the second picture I am backed straight in and not angled.
Lots of nice looking buildings here. I always thought I'd end up on about 5 acres. Instead we moved into an RV community.
Being in a RV-center neighborhood we had to integrate our garages into the house. So 14' x 14' door opens to a 16' x 50' RV bay. Plenty of room to open all the slides and walk around 3 sides of the RV. And it shares a full size double wide garage area and has a golf cart door on the right side of the garage area. No problem fitting RV, truck, SUV and 2 golf carts (in front of the 5th wheel).
I highly recommend a 14' x 14' door and minimum 16' inside area to allow for slide outs. The ceiling is 16' high so I can get up on the roof of the RV too (I'm on the short side but have to stoop over but it doesn't prevent me from doing needed maintenance and service on the roof.
This is what I’ve been working on for my new 5thwheel I’ll pickup in a couple of weeks. Overall it’s 30’ x 50’. The RV part is 20’ x50’ the opening height is 14’ at the header. I have a 10’ x20 ‘ storage and the rest is patio area . I’ve added a 50 amp hookup and sewer isn’t too far away when needed. I still need some convenient plugs and lights but that will happen after I get the 5thwheel.

Wow thats a great setup! Looks amazing! If I can ask what did that run? Not the land obv, but the building, concrete, and electric?

The building was 17,000 and the concrete work was 27,000 which included dirt work 30x50 slab and close to 90’ of driveway thats 30 ‘ at the building and 20’ wide to the street. The electrical I haven’t totaled everything up but I probably have about 1500 in it so far . I’ve done all electrical work my self . The aluminum steps were 750 and I have about 600 in the pipe railings . It would have been cheaper if I had a level lot , not as much concrete.
Wow not as bad as I thought for sure. I could tell from the photos you had a lot of concrete work. Does that 17,000 include assembly and install of the building or did you do that yourself too?

The 17,000 is turn key delivery and installation. It took 1 1/2 days to install. You can add or delete things that will increase or decrease the cost. We chose a standard color and a smaller rollup door. It’s a Stallion building.

Thanks for all the information it’s a beautiful setup.

Great looking house, by that I mean the garage. I really don't care about the house. I keep telling my wife, all I need is a view of the mountains, 40 acres and a big garage. She can spec out everything else how she wants it.
