Allright, i'm finally having issues with the feedback on my '85. At idle every now and then it'll want to idle really really high (as in if i get off the gas in 2nd gear it'll want to cruise at 25) THEN when it comes down it starts to sputter and stumble almost like it has really BAD vaccuum leak, but it doesn't have one so i think it's leaning out real bad. Every now and then when i wind the truck out in gear (it's a NP435, gotta wind it with my 3.08's) it'll be wrapping up and runing great, then it'll fall flat on its face like it's out of gas and will start to surge and buck, but not every time.
All of these problems are real erratic and don't do it regularily enough for me to be under the hood to watch it. Any ideas on a fix, or is it just time for me to do my DSII ignition and carb swap?
I'd lean towards the ignition system first, and then the carb. A rebuild kit for the carb is only about $30, and it will take you about 2 hours to do. Piece of cake.
it doesn't happen consistently enough to be an ignition issue, it is definitely a fuel issue. I figured out what's causing it to idle high, the throttle positioner is sticking, but what would caus the truck to lean out at idle and act like it has bad vaccuum?
