LOL But you do have a point. Maybe I can just stick the sideboards on the sides. What do you think of that look?

That's it! Put sideboards on what you have and have fun.
Order the parts you need for the bed and fix that up as you can.
Install a wench in your shop and build a bed platform.
Now, you have interchangeable beds put the flatbed on when you need to haul stuff and have a portable workbench. Put the nice bed for cruses and shows and general fun driving.
You know have the best of both worlds and you protect the nice bed while still being able to use your truck as a truck.

The northern Yellow Pine was a slow growth tree with tighter rings and therefore harder than the yellow pine grown for pressure treating today.
