Hey guys when ever I put my truck (1967 F100 240 I-6 NP435) in reverse the back of the truck bounces. Going forward is no problem. The only time it dident do it was when I forgot to take off the E-break. Not sure if this is one of those " that's just the way it is" deals, of if something is binding up. What do you guys think?
Thanks Joe.
Check all the rubber mounts.
First the transmission mount then the motor mounts.
Are they cracked / broken or covered in oil?
Maybe because of age just replace them as a start.
What shape are the spring bushings in?
Mostly the front ones as the rears are along for the ride.
Most of the time it is the rubber mounts.
A long shot as it only happens when backing up but oil on the clutch disc from a rear main seal leak?

Ok thanks I’ll check all mounts and bushings this week. Another thing the original owner installed some coil helper springs in the rear between the axle and the frame. Would that cause the bouncing in reverse? (I’ll try and get a picture of the rear ended and post it)
thanks
It should not but it may.
Do you carry heavy loads in the bed and need the springs?
I guess for testing after you check the mounts and spring bushings you could pull them and see what happens.

Classic sign of your rear shoes being worn or way out of adjustment. The shoes are " caming" over and binding innthe drum.
