He told us that the only time he experienced a loss in power was when running a 100% used ATF mixture. This may have something to do with the fact that ATF doesn't burn as readily as diesel. According to our research in lower flammable limit (LFL) and upper flammable limit (UFL), we found that diesel will burn sooner and longer than ATF, which translates into more complete combustion. And, as ATF was not intended to be combusted, no BTU (British Thermal Unit) rating exists to compare it to diesel.
That would explain the bragging of guys burning used motor oil and ATF when they say their engine is SOOO much smoother and quieter----no doubt it is, but it's due to incomplete and poor combustion compared to using diesel fuel.
This part's interesting too:
it was talked about in a previous thread on trans fluid change that we can put the stuff in the tank and burn
it as it will clean up the injectors, etc.
“in off-road vehicles only” as a disclaimer not to get people in trouble for burning non taxed fuel. cool.
my interest is in burning it rather than recycling it as a way to help my truck(s) not hamper them.
so.... to be clear on the subject of burning used atf in the tank of “off-road vehicles only”....
can any transmission “fluid” be burned? Synthetic, mercon, merconV, VI, or any transmission fluid sold in the store for the use in transmissions
or
only burn regular, good ol, tried and true automatic transmission fluid and no other types, as mentioned above
tjc....help us understand!-)

Reason: With a plea.....
well, since i don't use synthetic i can not say. but ATF helps clean the injectors and pump. i would not run it in a newer electronic engine, but i have not dumped any ATF since 1986. every drop has been "recycled" in the fuel tanks of my IDI diesels.
