VSS wiring questions

1996 Ranger recipient, 1999 Mountaineer. 5.0 both 2 wheel drive A/T
8.8 rear is under the Ranger.
wiring diagrams I find show the Ranger VSS from trans pin locations are 58 and 33 grd.
wiring diagrams I find show the Mounty VSS is from rear and pin locations are 7 and 13 grd. colors are same, colors definitely are same color as my Haynes Ranger manual.

Questions, do I leave 7+13 intact so ABS works and re-pin 58 and 33 with new harness from trans?
Make up new wire harness from tail shaft and splice into harness for 7-13?

This is like the major concern right now.

The more interesting question is... what to do about the difference in pulse frequency between the two. Even if you get it connected, the speedo will be way off I think.

But let's wait for more people to reply...

There is a device called a Dakota Digital something that supposedly makes the conversion. I looked it up, several places sell them, $80-$100. so that may be what I do?
Thanks for getting back with me. I have posted on 4 different sites, FTE was one site which has has three separate forums and you were the first and only FTE so far. So, out of 6 postings, I have three (3) responses.

I am thinking with the hole blanked off on the tailshaft of the tranny I can send the signal straight from the trans to the PCM but as you point out, will it understand the different frequency?

I'm assuming the transmission has the output shaft speed sensor on it, which is a fancy name for a speedo gear with a sensor on the end of it?

That is what it looks like. Looks same inside as the Ranger trans. A guy commenting from one of the other sites said it isn't, that there was no such trans in a '99.

Problem is, who knows if the trans is from the '99 as OEM? The guy on the other site said the shaft in the trans was correct but the tailshaft cover would have to be drilled to accept the sensor and the hold down bolt, but I would be willing to bet what I am looking at is ready for the sensor?
The '99 is at least 2nd if not 3-4th owner. The '96 Ranger was second owner but same family since new. Better cosmetic condition than the Explorer before the guy hit a pole with it trying to get his cell phone from the floor where he dropped it.
An older, frail person may not have walked away from the '99, steering wheel air bag deployed, bent frame, passenger floor buckled, rear cocked around in its perches. Engine and trans mount sheared off.
