engine mount removal help.

We have a 1990 F250 with the 5.8 litre engine. We are trying to replace a leaking freeze plug and can't get at it because it is behind the engine mount. The engine has been raised but the offending plug is still not accessible behind the driver side engine mount which is blocked by the frame. How is the best way to remove the mount so that the plug can be replaced? Any help would be appreciated.

Am I missing something here? That's the goofiest looking motor mount for a 351w I've ever seen. I'm 100% sure that motor mount in that picture is for a 7.5L 460 big block.

You should be able to get the mount off with a ratchet and socket if you jack the motor up a little more.

GNR22, you are correct. I looked up the mount for a 460 and it looks identical. I will have to double check on the type of engine this has in it but I thought it stated 5.8 litre. I will check to see if the engine can be lifted any further.

Update: We think that even though the paperwork with the truck says 5.8 litre the engine must have been replaced with a 460 V8 sometime in the past. So he is going to pull the engine and replace all of the plugs and the pan gasket while he is at it. Thanks.

If it helps I had a similar issue on a 302. I "temporarily" installed a rubber expandable freeze plug, made by Dorman. Worked great for many many miles. Even when towing. Still in the motor to this day.

8th digit on vin# G-7.5L, H-5.8L, you could look at firing order, 7.5L-1-5-4-2-6-3-7-8, 5.8L-1-3-7-2-6-5-4-8

Um... what does the top of the engine look like? Assuming it is still fuel injected they look very different

460 / 7.5L

351W / has 5.8L cast into the upper plenum.

There's no question that the motor mount in the picture in the original post is for a 460. Not even close to what is found on a windsor.

Glad to hear you're getting a solution, even if it means doing more work.

Piggybacking off of what "puppyf250" said, I have also used a similar method to repair a single leaking freeze plug. I replaced it with one that had a block heater element built in, but was also the expanding type.
