Manual swap

96 f150 2wd 4.9 300
went mudding yesterday and blew my tranny. Kinda been wanting to throw a manual in it for a while so I think this all be the perfect time. What specifics am I looking for this swap?I found a 95 f150 2wd 4.9 with the 5 speed in it. Is it compatible? Will it just bolt right up? What all do I need to grab off of the 95?

Yes, the 300 shared the smallblock bell-housing bolt pattern and everything but his is solidly in "if you're asking these questions you're gonna screw it up" territory.

you need to grab everything the trans touches, plus all the clutch stuff. best thing would be to get the two trucks in the same place, this way you will have everything you need on hand without running back for missing parts.

Is the flywheel on the 95 internally balanced or externally? The clutch. Does it have manual linkage or hydraulics?

you have a '96, so you need an ECU for a '96 300 5spd. ' 95 won't work as ';96 is OBD2

Why not just run the '95?

You mud in a 2wd truck? Not time to find a 4x4?

And, finally, if I was going to the trouble of a swap, I would look for a ZF5 out of a F250.

He's got a '96 truck. Engine is basically the same but wiring and ECU is very different

What kind of zf5 am I looking for specifically if i were to go that route? Would it have to come out of a 96 300 f250? I found one out of a 89 f250 with 351 4x4. Does it have to be 2x4?

Did you really or did you maybe just knock an electrical connector off? What symptoms does the trans exhibit… slipping with a lot of smoke or a sudden loss of forward gears and a check engine light?
