Styleside box questions

I found an 8 foot box off a mercury looks exactly the same as my style side just a bit shorter. How difficult is it section the box and add a foot to make it a 9 foot for my F350. It is the only one ive seen that looks anything close to mine and it's only a couple hours away. I had him measure and the width is the same and the wheel well opening are the same. I figure I will have to center the box over the wheels and a piece front, or back or maybe both.

I know it may be easier to chop the frame but I have a dump box and want the option of swapping from time to time. Has anyone done this, do you have pics and any tips on doing it. I'm a decent welder and have rebuilt a few Jeeps rebuilding frames, floor and boy section but jeeps are flat lol, this will the biggest project I've taken on.

Green 8 foot donor
Wimbledon White original 9 ft

Will be nice to have a factory style box for errands. That why I want to keep both a swap back and forth.

I do find the dump box so useful around the Farm.

Both boxes are 57-60 styleside and are also found on 62-63 trucks. I can't really help with your quiry but most boxes going from 8 down to 6 1/2 require cutting in front and behind the wheel wells. You might therefore have to add to both ends. Nice Mercury tailgate. Any more "trailers" hanging around the farm?

If I’m understanding you correctly, you bought that trailer? Someone will be willing to pay you a good price simply for a Mercury tailgate.

Yes bought the green trailer, I figure I will most likely have to add to both ends. I was hoping there is thread where someone may have already done this. I am curious how involved this will be, moving crossmembers etc. I will have to add a foot to the sides and floor obviously just would like to know what the best approach is.

Maybe try posting in the 57-60 forum as those trucks had that style of box.

I called a couple body shops today just to get a price, however I am in a rural area and the guys I contacted are close to retiring and don't want to take on any big projects. I planed on doing it myself but was curious. Guess I have no choice. I am not worried about the welding it's coming up with jigs to keep it all true.
